FREDDIE PRINZE JR IS DELGO


Hollywood hunk FREDDIE PRINZE JR has been selected as the voice of DELGO in the upcoming computer-generated movie.
FATHOM has revealed that Prinze Jr is Delgo, a teen who must save the world, after conducting a worldwide WHO IS DELGO? contest.
Producer and co-director MARC ADLER says thousands of guesses were cast, including speculation that TOM CRUISE or BRAD PITT would land the role.
A host of stars have already been announced as a part of the project, including JENNIFER LOVE HEWITT, CHRIS KATTAN, ANNE BANCROFT, MICHAEL CLARKE DUNCAN, VAL KILMER, KELLY RIPA, ERIC IDLE, BURT REYNOLDS and LOUIS GOSSETT JR.
Prinze Jr, married to SCOOBY-DOO co-star SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR, says, "You expect (Delgo) to be very sort of vanilla, and he isn`t. He`s a fairly complicated guy.
"I`ve always sort of been in love with that sort of world, fantasy, ever since I was a little boy with DUNGEONS & DRAGONS."

SCOOBY-DOO 2 SCORES BOX OFFICE WINNER


SCOOBY-DOO 2: MONSTERS UNLEASHED has leaped to the top of the American box office, after taking in $30.7 million (GBP 17 million) on its opening weekend (26-29MAR04).
While the movie, starring Hollywood couple SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR and FREDDIE PRINZE JR, clinched the top spot easily, its revenue is 43 per cent below the $54.2 million (GBP 30.1 million) debut the first SCOOBY-DOO managed in June 2002.
The remake of comedy classic THE LADYKILLERS, starring TOM HANKS, premiered in second place with $13 million (GBP 7.2 million).
JERSEY GIRL, with BEN AFFLECK as a widower raising a daughter and a cameo by JENNIFER LOPEZ as his wife, debuted at number five with $8.3 million (GBP 4.6 million).
The Ladykillers and Jersey Girl each played in fewer than half the number of theatres as Scooby-Doo 2. Playing in 1,583 theatres, the Ladykillers averaged $8,214 (GBP 4,563), while Jersey Girl raked in $5,462 (GBP 3,304) in 1,520 cinemas.
MEL GIBSON`s THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST held solidly at number three with $12.5 million (GBP 6.9 million), pushing its total to $315 million (GBP 175 million).
The previous weekend`s top movie, DAWN OF THE DEAD, tumbled to fourth place with $10.3 million (GBP 5.7 million), while DMX`s NEVER DIE ALONE debuted disappointingly at number 11 with $3.1 million (GBP 1.7 million).
In limited release, NICOLE KIDMAN`s DOGVILLE opened well with $90,000 (GBP 50,000) at nine theatres in New York City and Los Angeles.

SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR fans hoping to catch the actress onscreen with husband FREDDIE PRINZE JR had better watch the latest SCOOBY DOO movie - because they`ve ruled out doing it again.
The pair teamed up for 2002`s Scooby Doo and reprised their roles for follow-up movie SCOOBY DOO 2: MONSTER`S UNLEASHED, but Gellar insists it`s the last time they`ll be in a movie together.
She says, "I just don`t think people wanna see couples onscreen. I don`t think it`s interesting. I don`t think that it`s something for the audience to wish for or to want for."
Some fans feel the move is a wise one, following the dreadful performance of former couple BEN AFFLECK and JENNIFER LOPEZ`s summer (03) flop GIGLI.

She explains, "I think the first story revolved around Daphne finding her place. That same in-between place that I think a lot of teenagers and young adults find themselves in, which is, `Where do I fit in?`"

Former BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER star SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR is championing a major American breast cancer charity as a tribute to pals who have survived the disease.
The actress is urging fans to buy a new LILLY PULITZER breast cancer awareness scarf at BLOOMINGDALE`S stores across America, after the disease ravaged some friends of hers.
She explains, "Breast cancer has hit me very close to home - I have six friends under the age of 45 who are survivors.
"When breast cancer is caught in its earliest stages, the five-year survival rate for young women is 82 per cent. It makes you realise that you`re never too young to start checking yourself."
Gellar will be appearing in a series of print ads wearing the fashionable scarf in a bid to boost sales. Proceeds go to the SUSAN G KOMEN BREAST CANCER FOUNDATION.

Newlyweds FREDDIE PRINZE JR and SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR seem to be taking over TV, with a slew of projects lined up.
The former BUFFY, THE VAMPIRE SLAYER actress will `appear` in THE SIMPSONS and her husband has written an episode of cult American sci-fi show MUTANT X.
The couple, currently shooting SCOOBY-DOO 2 in Vancouver, Canada, have other plans too.
Gellar says, "I`d like to try an action movie and maybe hit Broadway."
