LIL KIM INDICTED FOR 2001 SHOOTING


Rapper LIL KIM is expected to surrender herself to authorities in Manhattan, New York, today (14APR04) after she and four associates were indicted on perjury and obstruction of justice charges following a 2001 shooting.
The sexy star, real name KIMBERLY JONES, was indicted after a a grand jury declared there was sufficient evidence for the case to go to trial.
As a result, Kim is expected to appear in court later today (14APR04) to face charges at an arraignment hearing.
The rapper is charged with allegedly lying to investigators about her involvement in the February 2001 shooting, which left one man with gunshot wounds to his back.
When questioned by police the day after the incident, Kim claimed to have no knowledge of what caused the fracas and refused to tell police who was with her at the HOT 97 radio studios when the shooting took place.
It was later discovered that Kim had been at the station when the shots rang out following a feud between her entourage and that of rival rappers CAPONE-N- NOREAGA.
Kim and her friend MONIQUE DOPWELL also allegedly lied when later questioned by a grand jury in connection with the investigation.

LIL KIM PLEADS INNOCENT TO PERJURY


LATEST: Rapper LIL KIM has pleaded innocent to charges she lied to a grand jury about a 2001 shootout involving her entourage.
The 29-year-old hip-hop beauty, real name is KIMBERLY JONES, surrendered in federal court and was released on $500,000 (GBP 277,700) bail yesterday (14APR04).
Her attorney MEL SACHS calls the charges "baseless".
Also charged in the case were LADY MARMALADE rapper`s manager, DAMION BUTLER, bodyguard SUIF JACKSON and a friend, MONIQUE DOPWELL. All pleaded innocent.
Authorities said the shooting apparently happened as Lil` Kim`s entourage was leaving the hip-hop radio station WQHT, or HOT 97, and the crew of the rival rap group CAPONE-N-NOREAGA was arriving. One man in the duo`s entourage was wounded.
The indictment said Jackson, Butler and at least one other person fired guns.
Police said the shooting resulted from a feud between Lil` Kim and rap rival FOXY BROWN, who appeared on a Capone-N-Noreaga album.
Prosecutors said Jones refused on the day after the shooting to tell police the identities of anyone who had accompanied her to an appearance at the radio station.
On three occasions last year (03) before a federal grand jury, she testified falsely, saying Butler was not at the radio station the day of the shooting and that she did not know Jackson, prosecutors said.
Lil` Kim, charged with conspiracy to commit perjury, making false statements and obstructing justice, could face up to 30 years in prison if convicted.
She could also face fines of $250,000 (GBP 138,000).

LATEST: Rapper LIL KIM has been given permission to race in this weekend`s (17APR04) TOYOTA GRAND PRIX OF LONG BEACH in California, even though she`s fighting a new court battle in New York.
A Manhattan court has given Kim permission to get behind the wheel as long as she promises to return to the New York City area after the race.
The rap star has pleaded innocent to charges she lied to a grand jury about a 2001 shoot-out involving her entourage. She was released on $500,000 (GBP 277,700) bail on Wednesday (14APR04).

LIL KIM INDICTED ON MULTIPLE PERJURY COUNTS


LATEST: Flamboyant rapper LIL KIM is facing ten years in jail after being charged with lying to an American grand jury.
The 28-year-old, real KIMBERLY JONES, will go on trial on 15 November until around 6 December (04) at New York`s MANHATTAN FEDERAL COURT to face one count of conspiracy, three counts of perjury, three counts of making false statements and one count of obstruction.
The charges, which carry maximum prison terms of between five and 10 years, relate to a shooting outside a Manhattan radio station in 2001, when Kim`s and a rap rival`s entourage exchanged gunfire after the former had appeared on the HOT
97 radio station with JUNIOR M.A.F.I.A..
The hip-hop queen is accused of claiming DAMION BUTLER, one of her managers, was not present at the incident and that she did not know SUIF JACKSON, a bodyguard and friend who was also present.
Both men were indicted for firing guns during the incident, and are now currently serving prison terms for state weapons charges.
Kim refused to comment on the charges, filed by DISTRICT JUDGE GERARD LYNCH, but her lawyer MEL SACHS says, "Kim is not a criminal.
"These charges have been extracted out of context, magnified out of proportion.
She`s been singled out and used because of who she is in the music industry."

The TROUBLE singer`s show features three blow-up dolls standing in for Aguilera, MYA and LIL KIM - which appear when Pink belts out their GRAMMY- winning hit LADY MARMALADE from movie MOULIN ROUGE.
An audience member at the 21 March (04) NOTTINGHAM ARENA show tells America`s US WEEKLY, "She started singing to the ugliest doll on the stage, `You are beautiful, no matter what I say.` Then she roared with laughter. It was funny, but really bitchy."

PINK deemed blow-up dolls suitable replacements for her co-singers CHRISTINA AGUILERA, LIL KIM and MYA when she performed in London last night (23MAR04).
The feisty star, 24, unleashed the foursome`s cover of classic single LADY MARMALADE at WEMBLEY ARENA - but used comical dolls on stage in place of the pop trio.
However, Pink - real name ALICIA MOORE - has denied the dolls make her concerts too raunchy for her young fans.

MAN ACCUSED OF CONNING LIL KIM JAILED


A man accused of conning hip-hop beauty LIL KIM after her jewellery was stolen has been jailed.
JOHN ACHESON, 31, told the rapper`s lawyer that he knew where her missing jewellery was when, in fact, he didn`t.
He pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of attempted grand larceny and was subsequently sentenced to five days behind bars and a $500 (GBP 277) fine, rather than up to four years in jail, for his role in trying to con the New York native.
Kim`s lawyer MEL SACHS got a call from Acheson last summer (03), three days after a thief made off with $250,000 (GBP 138,800) worth of her jewellery at New York`s JOHN F KENNEDY AIRPORT on 20 June.
Acheson allegedly offered to sell back the stash for $5,000 (GBP 2,700) upfront and another $20,000 (GBP 11,100) later, police said. The jewels were later found near an airport employee`s locker.
No money was paid by Kim or her people, though Acheson, who was already on parole for swindling his former landlord for $47,000 (GBP 26,100) in fake stock, was slapped with a felony grand larceny charge.
Acheson still claims that he had to pay $20,000 in order to get the jewellery back from a friend, and is now threatening to sue Sachs over the alleged investment.

Racy rapper LIL KIM has blasted conservative FOX reporter BILL O`REILLY
after he criticised American clothes chain OLD NAVY for signing the hip-hop star
to front their new advertising campaign.
The NO TIME hitmaker, 28, was incensed after the commentator said Old
Navy, owned by GAP, shouldn`t undermine the morals of American teenagers and
children by using a highly-sexual celebrity to promote their clothes.
In 2002, O`Reilly`s critique of the PEPSI promo starring LUDACRIS resulted
in the soft drink company dropping the rapper from the campaign after he
claimed his songs glamorised drugs, sex and violence.
Lil` Kim, whose real name is KIMBERLY JONES, says, "I was completely
blindsided by Mr O`Reilly`s derogatory comments against me. It shows the
world that contrary to popular beliefs, Neanderthals are not entirely extinct.
"This man has manifested a vendetta against black music. I am not the
first artist he has tried to defame and disrespect, and I`m sure I won`t be the
last.
"And to Mr O`Reilly I say this: Next time something offends you on
television, change the channel. I do it all the time during your show."

R&B star MARQUES HOUSTON was stunned when he met rapper LIL KIM on the set of their new movie YOU GOT SERVED - because she turned out to be a lot less raunchy than he`d imagined.
The singer, older brother of former B2K frontman OMARION, met the flamboyant
hip-hop star on the set of the dance film, and was surprised to see just how down-
to-earth she was.

automobile giant FORD to give their new range of vehicles a more "urban" appeal.
After developing partnerships with rap mogul Combs and DJ FUNK MASTER
FLEX to produce customised limited edition LINCOLN NAVIGATORs, the
company`s vice president of designs says future Ford vehicles will have more
"urban styling".
He explains, "Urban is directly related to hip-hop and hip-hop is the driver here.
I`m talking about P Diddy, Lil` Kim, Eminem, droopy jeans, bling, bling. It`s cool no
matter which side of Eight Mile you happen to call home."

Biography
Standing just 4 ft. 7inches tall Kimberly Jones seems much less than being just your average girl in the hood, but when "Lil` Kim" was introduced to the world she became known for her provocative over-the-top outfits, glamorous blonde hair-dos, pornographic attitude, sexy man-crazed looks, and a groundbreaking triumph that eventually secured her place as one of the few female rappers in a male-dominated industry. A native of Brooklyn, New York, Kimberly was born into a broken home, by age 9 her parents had filed for divorce, leaving her and older brother Christopher under the custody of their father. A rebellious child living under the strict rules of her dad, Kimberly and her father had constant fights, and eventually she ran away from home. As a teenager she lived with friends, drug-dealing boyfriends, and, occasionally, on the streets. After meeting her mentor and life saver Christopher Wallace, (Notorious B.I.G/Biggie Smalls), she began to clean up her life and it was Christopher who helped her develop a career in music. By then Kimberly had taken in the slogan "Lil` Kim" after her height and curbing her name to just Kim. With the help of Christopher she became the only female member of the short lived rap group Junior M.A.F.I.A. Their 1995 debut album Conspiracy debuted at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and garnered the hit singles "Player`s Anthem" (#13) and "Get Money" (#17). Following the release, Lil` Kim appeared on records by Mona Lisa, the Isley Brothers, Total, and Skin Deep. And it was obvious that it was time for her to come out with her own solo album, and that`s just what she did in 1996, with the release of "Hard Core".
