DIDO, POP IDOL winner WILL YOUNG and Scottish group BELLE & SEBASTIAN will compete for this year`s (04) top prize at next month`s (MAY04) IVOR NOVELLO AWARDS in London.

Singer DIDO has fallen for a British soccer star with a badboy reputation, following an intimate date.
The NO ANGEL star, 32, reportedly enjoyed a romantic meal with temperamental LEEDS UNITED player ALAN SMITH, 23 - even though she supports rival team ARSENAL - and the pair have made arrangements to meet up again when she returns from New York.
A source says, "Dido`s always had a bit of a thing for Alan.
"Word got back to him and it all took off from there.
"They had planned to meet this weekend because Leeds were in London to play Arsenal, but Dido had to go to the States so they had to put that on hold.
"The relationship is just a bit of fun for both of them.
"Alan split his girlfriend recently so is also young, free and single."

DIDO`S SIBLING RIVALRY


British pop star DIDO and her producer brother ROLLO battled bitterly over her latest album LIFE FOR RENT.
The 32-year-old has worked with Rollo, a member of dance act FAITHLESS, on both her hit LPs - but confesses the pair frequently clashed.
Dido says, "We fought because we`re both always adamant that we`re right.
"Sometimes, I`d be screaming, crying and thumping my fists on the floor until I got my own back.
"One time I really lost it, I was really tired and just snuck into a corner, curled up in a ball, crying and shouting until Rollo found me.
"But the great thing about working with Rollo is that we always know what we want to hear in the end - we just have different ways of getting there."

DIDO`S SCARY FANS


Singer DIDO demands police presence when she`s touring America - to protect her from her own fans.
The LIFE FOR RENT star is regularly plagued by intimidating fans and often calls on cops to help her escape the relentless pursuit of eager autograph hunters.
She says, "The autograph hunters are a totally different breed there, and incredibly aggressive.
"They`d probably kill for an autograph. There have been times where police have actually had to close an entire freeway so we could escape from chasing cars. It can be extremely frightening."
The British-born singer`s most worrying experience with fans happened in Italy.
She explains, "I was once in a medieval Italian town having supper in the square with some friends. Slowly this singing began. and I realised the whole square was singing my song THANK YOU. It was absolutely horrific!
"I have never felt so incredibly intimidated."

Singer DIDO has learnt to love her own music - but not when she`s having sex.
The BRIT-winning star, 32, deems making love to her own music "weird" - but she`s quite happy to have her tunes blasting out of her car speakers.
The LIFE FOR RENT singer says, "There`s definitely a real passion in all my songs and I hope people can see that.
"But I`d never have sex to my own music - that would be seriously weird.
"I think my songs make good driving music, though.
"I know I`m not supposed to say this, but I do like my own music and I love listening to it."

British pop star DIDO is dating her ex-boyfriend FERDIE INGER-HAMILTON again, following their split in November (04).
Dido celebrated her reconciliation with the record company boss by going with him to see her favourite football team ARSENAL play in London on Saturday (20MAR04).
An onlooker says, "It certainly seemed that Dido and Ferdie were back together, judging by the way they hardly left each other`s side all afternoon.
"They were walking along the street as happy as can be, holding hands and laughing together. Although going to a football match isn`t the most romantic of dates, I don`t think either of them cared - they seemed too into each other to really notice their surroundings."
The WHITE FLAG star, real name FLORIAN CLOUD DE BOUNEVIALLE ARMSTRONG, failed to rekindle her long-term relationship with ex-fiance BOB PAGE - who she left for Inger-Hamilton - over Christmas (DEC03).

American pop star JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE and R&B trio N.E.R.D. are in talks to headline Britain`s annual V FESTIVAL.
The `N SYNC singer, who is currently filming his movie debut EDISON in Vancouver, Canada, is in discussions with organisers of the two day event, which takes place in HYLANDS PARK, Chelmsford, Essex and WESTON PARK, Staffordshire.
Timberlake and THE NEPTUNES would be sharing the stage with THE STROKES, DIDO, MUSE and THE PIXIES at the August (04) gig.
A V source says, "All the stops are being pulled out to secure Justin. So far the talks are going well.
"He has no other UK dates this year and wants to keep fans here happy. Justin loves hanging out in the UK and has always wanted to experience one of our big festival.
"At the moment the idea of performing with N.E.R.D. is attractive because it means he can be more relaxed about the whole thing.
"However, if the logistics and money are in place, he may bump it up to a solo show."

THE DARKNESS frontman JUSTIN HAWKINS is a big fan of musical peer DIDO -
although her single WHITE FLAG scuppered his chances of a British number one.
The I BELIEVE IN A THING CALLED LOVE rocker admits that Dido`s brand of
chilled-out pop is not his favourite kind of music. But when it comes to
personality, Hawkins says the blonde beauty is his kind of woman.
He enthuses, "I sat down and had a meal with her and I think she`s very

DIDO SHUNS BRITS


Pop star DIDO has stunned fans by axing her appearance at this month`s
(FEB04) BRIT AWARDS, even though she`s tipped to be the event`s big prize
winner.
The sexy LIFE FOR RENT singer - who picked up nominations in the Best
Female, Best Album and Best Single categories - has cancelled all engagements
for the next month so she can focus on preparations for her upcoming tour.
Dido has also pulled out of this Sunday`s (8FEB04) prestigious GRAMMY
AWARDS in Los Angeles as part of her move to rehearse and write for her live
show.
She says, "The last year has been absolutely fantastic for me. However, the
continual commitment to events, promotion and TV appearances has meant that
any time for being creative has been non-existent.
"I`m therefore really excited to be clearing the decks and making space to write
and record. I`ve also been desperate to get out on the road and this now means
that I will finally be able to make that a reality.
"Although I`ll be sorry to miss all the fun and celebrations at the Brits, I look
forward to seeing everyone on tour soon."
Dido`s world tour is expected to kick off in May (04).

DIDO SHUTS DOWN RACIST WEBSITE


British star DIDO has closed down a racist website providing downloads of her
songs WHITE FLAG and THIS LAND IS MINE, claiming they support white
supremacy.
The singer instructed her label BMG to investigate after learning of the internet
site, and they contacted watchdog the BRITISH PHONOGRAPHIC INDUSTRY,
who immediately had it shut down.
A record label source says, "Dido was horrified when she found out about the
site. Anyone who knows her would see their views are completely the opposite of
hers.
"She`s fuming about it but happy they`ve shut it down."
It is not known how Dido - real name FLORIAN CLOUD DE BOUNEVIALLE
ARMSTRONG - became aware of the site.

Biography
Dido Armstrong, 25 December 1971, England. Armstrong is the sister of Faithless mastermind and leading UK dance music producer, Rollo. She sang "Flowerstand Man` on Faithless" 1996 debut, Reverence and contributed backing vocals to several other tracks, while maintaining a day job in a London office and studying for a law degree part-time. Like her peer, Sonique, Dido`s first solo successes were in the USA, rather than her native UK. Musically gifted from an early age, Dido (named after the Queen of Carthage) attended London`s Guildhall School of Music and played recorder, piano and violin by the age of 10. Her teenage years were spent listening to her brother`s record collection and touring with a classical ensemble. She began singing with various London-based bands before becoming involved in her brother`s project, Faithless. After the million-selling success of Reverence, Dido toured with the band for 18 months and contributed to Faithless` second album, Sunday 8pm. At this stage, Dido was writing her own material and had assembled an album`s worth of demo tapes.
These demos led to a publishing deal in the UK with Cheeky Records and a deal with the US arm of Arista Records in 1999. Her debut, No Angel, was produced by Rollo and Youth and received its US release in June 1999. The track "Here With Me" was used as the theme for the hit US television series Roswell, and "Thank You" was used on the soundtrack of the Gwyneth Paltrow movie, Sliding Doors. Dido`s media profile was raised enormously when rap star Eminem sampled "Thank You" for his single "Stan", which became a huge hit on both sides of the Atlantic. With the emphasis very much on quality song writing, No Angel combined electronic and acoustic elements to create a lush, down-tempo style. It was released in the UK in October 2000 in conjunction with live performances on the east coast of the USA. Phenomenal sales followed as the album became the preferred listening at a million middle-class dinner parties.
