MURPHY BRINGS SHREK CHARACTER TO SIEGFRIED & ROY SERIES:
Hollywood funnyman EDDIE MURPHY will play his SHREK character DONKEY in a new series based on illusionists SIEGFRIED & ROY`s famous tigers.
Murphy will reprise the role for one episode of computer animated series FATHER OF THE PRIDE, which is set to premiere this autumn (04).
Other celebrities adding their vocals to the anticipated series include LISA KUDROW, DANNY DeVITO and CHRISTINA APPLEGATE.
Characters based on American Vice President DICK CHENEY, BARBRA STREISAND and her husband JAMES BROLIN will also feature in the series, although their voices will be supplied by actors.
JOHN GOODMAN, CHERYL HINES, CARL REINER and ORLANDO JONES head the vocal cast in the show, which centres on a family of white lions who work as performers in Siegfried & Roy`s recently cancelled Las Vegas show.
Despite ROY HORN`s near-fatal tiger attack in October (03) both SIEGFRIED FISCHBACHER and Horn remain major characters in Pride, with actors providing their voices.

DIAZ AND HILTON FIGHT TO SAVE ELEPHANT:
Hollywood beauties CAMERON DIAZ and reality TV star PARIS HILTON are teaming up to help an African elephant retire in style.
FLORA, 21, has been the star of her own travelling CIRCUS FLORA since leaving Africa after poachers killed her mother for ivory when she was just three and is currently residing in a temporary home at MIAMI ZOO in Flori da.
Diaz, Hilton, CHRISTINA APPLEGATE, HILARY DUFF and SHANNON ELIZABETH have raised $70,000 (GBP 36,842) towards the $200,000 (GBP 105,263) needed to fund Flora`s retirement at the ELEPHANT SANCTUARY in Hohenwald, Tennessee.
The actresses have been sporting t-shirts sporting a photo of the cute mammals.
CHARLIE`S ANGELS star Diaz is so enamoured with Flora, she reportedly sleeps with a framed photo of the creature beside her bed.

GIBSON`S PASSION HELPS RELEASE OF JUDAS MOVIE:
The controversy surrounding MEL GIBSON`s upcoming movie THE PASSION OF CHRIST has been credited getting a film about JUDAS ISCARIOT to American TV screens next month (MAR04).
The makers of JUDAS, which features CHRISTINA APPLEGATE`s husband JOHNATHAN SCHAECH in the title role, have waited more than two years for bosses at TV network ABC to give it a debut date, now confirmed as 8 March.
And Schaech believes the attention applied to Gibson`s movie has prompted bosses to take a chance and release the film.
He notes, "You can`t compare a $5 million (GBP 2.9 million) film to a $20 million (GBP 11.7 million) film. I`m small compared to Mel Gibson. I think that`s why it`s going to be given a chance. It`s not a question of whether it`s any good or what my performance is like."
But the film - which features JONATHAN SCARFE as JESUS and JIM MATHESON as PONTIUS PILATE - may raise a few eyebrows, adds Schaech, who explains, "Judas is a very controversial character. To make him human and give him a heart is a risky thing to do."

Hollywood supercouple DEMI MOORE and ASHTON KUTCHER have stunned organisers of the SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL with their extravagant list of "requests".
The pair - who dressed for the premiere of Kutcher`s THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT in matching coats - sent the demands ahead of their arrival at Park City, Utah, at the weekend (17/18JAN04). And so bosses kitted them out in fre

Actress CHRISTINA APPLEGATE stunned party-goers at Sunday`s (18JAN04) MOTOROLA bash in Utah by dropping her celebrity image to help organise the toilet queue.
At the Park City party - which is laid on for guests of the SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL - Applegate dispelled myths of her diva-like behaviour by successfully bringing order to the out of control line-up.
In a bid to help the queue flow, Applegate shouted at the women, "One in, one out," and continued her contribution to public order for a further 20 minutes.
She finally left her post upon realising her actor husband JONATHAN SCHAECH would be wondering where she was, saying, "My husband is going to kill me!"

SHEARER RELIEVED HE HAS ESCAPED JURY DUTY:
LATEST: THIS IS SPINAL TAP star HARRY SHEARER managed to escape jury duty in the ROBERT BLAKE murder trial by convincing the authorities that he`d be sued if he participated.
Shearer, who also voices a host of characters in THE SIMPSONS, was shocked when he found himself in the jury pool for the upcoming court case.
But he has since been excused after insisting his bosses at TWENTIETH CENTURY FOX would seek compensation for the amount of time he missed at work, while summing up whether Blake is innocent or guilty.
He says, "They said, `What`ll happen if you don`t show up?` and I said, `They`ll probably sue me for breach of contract.`
"I assume that they know the Fox people as well as I do because it was, `You`re excused.`"
Shearer admits he`s relieved he doesn`t have to sit through the court case: "The whole thing reminded me of detention."
Actress CHRISTINA APPLEGATE hasn`t been quite as lucky - she has been called back for consideration on the jury, but she accepts if she has to do her duty, that`s fine.
She says, "I`m a citizen. I have to do what I have to do."

LATEST: Hollywood star CHRISTINA APPLEGATE is having difficulties excusing herself from the jury in the forthcoming ROBERT BLAKE murder trial.
THE SWEETEST THING actress has been trying to get out of her civic duty by claiming professional obligations prevent her from serving on a four to five month trial.
Los Angeles County Superior Court JUDGE DARLENE SCHEMPP is yet to oblige Christina`s request, even though SPINAL TAP star HARRY SHEARER has already been excused on the same grounds.
Her manager TAMI LYNN is hopeful, saying, "We expect to know later in the week."
BARETTA actor Blake has been accused of murdering his wife BONNIE LEE BAKLEY in Studio City, California in May 2001.

APPLEGATE TRIES TO GET OUT OF BLAKE TRIAL JURY:
Sexy Hollywood actress CHRISTINA APPLEGATE has found herself in the jury pool for the murder trial of veteran actor ROBERT BLAKE.
The WONDERLAND beauty spent nine hours at the VAN NUYS courthouse in
Los Angeles with hundreds of potential jurors, and hasn`t yet managed to
convince JUDGE DARLENE SCHEMPP she`s too busy with work commitments
for a potential four to five month trial.
Amazingly, Applegate wasn`t the only famous actor to be called up either - THIS IS SPINAL TAP star HARRY SHEARER, now better known for voicing animated TV comedy THE SIMPSONS characters MR BURNS and NED FLANDERS, was also summoned.
However, Shearer managed to convince the judge he is "contractually committed" to The Simpsons and he`d "probably be sued for breach of contract" if he couldn`t go to work.
He says, "I spent the afternoon with Christina making jokes, like the bad kids in the back of the classroom.
"Obviously, if you`re a well-known person, no attorney is going to let you serve on a jury - not the Robert Blake jury, for starters."

APPLEGATE`S FRIENDS ANXIETY:
Sexy actress CHRISTINA APPLEGATE was so nervous about her guest starring role on hit TV show FRIENDS, she had to stop herself from passing out.
Applegate, who has years of sitcom experience from her years on MARRIED... WITH CHILDREN, made a guest appearance as the sister of JENNIFER ANISTON`s character RACHEL in November (02), which earned her an EMMY AWARD.
But Applegate admits taking on the role was a stressful experience - even though she hits screens in Friends once more tomorrow (30OCT03).
She says, "I had met all of (the cast) individually over the years so I had a little rapport with each and every one of them. I felt like a part of the family.
"I wasn`t nervous during rehearsals but when we were about to shoot the episode and I was about to knock on the door I almost fainted. I had to tell them to hold it for just a second. I had to get some water and start b
reathing `cause I was just seeing white.
"Mind you, I was on a sitcom for 11 years and I was about to pass out doing Friends!
"The second time was worse because I had just won the Emmy for it that weekend before."
